Leading By Faith
The Church of the Ascension is a part of a national body of churches and is governed locally by a regional body (The Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida) which is headed by an elected Bishop.
An elected body, known as the 'vestry' administers the day-to-day operations of the church. The vestry is headed by the rector and is made up of at least 15 church parishioners.Typically, meetings are monthly. Minutes are recorded and kept and decisions are by a majority vote.
Other vestry members are assigned to spiritual ministries within the church. However, the budget and finance is entrusted with monitoring the finances of the church, and as such, must include the both Wardens, Treasurer and the financial secretary. Additionally, chairpersons from the Stewardship ministry, the men group, the women group and two random laypersons. The term for each vestry member is three years.
The vestry gives a report to the church at its annual general meeting in January of each year. Additionally, a parochial report is sent to the diocese soon after the general meeting.
